This pearl is certainly a strange one. She goes from hellcat to submissive whiner in the blink of an eye. At that point she then becomes an accomplished linguist in no time flat. The Arabs, including the daughter, are an uncivilized bunch of yahoos with a minimal agenda when it comes to the pearl. I have no idea where this one is going, nor do I have much interest in finding out. There isn't an interesting character in the group. All that said, despite the cavils already addressed by the previous reviewer, the writing is more than acceptable, there is an element of heat in this one, and the author has chosen to take on the challenge of presenting not one, but perhaps two exotic cultures. Put all this into the blender, hit start,and out comes my rating. (6/10)

This was a tough story to review. I loved the subject matter and most of the story and dialogue was well imagined. But there were a few more careless mistakes than one would like to see in a story of this length.
Just in the first few pages:
"I have heard rumors about the harem of prince Hali Ahmed and thought princess Maya would make an unusual addition" {Mako is the princess, not Maya}
'arab' should be capitalized
mouth 'pride' open {pried}
and must of been {must have been}
Also, in the first few sentences the author mentions that Kalid's ship had followed the route of Marco Polo to Japan. Marco Polo traveled overland to China after sailing to Palestine (he returned home from Cathay by sea, though).
But these are easily correctable quibbles; the story is written with stylish attention to the kinds of details that make a "historical" setting so enjoyable to many of us. Good job. (8/10)
