Twice in one day! Y/you people make me blog like no other... and Y/you're welcome in advance *grin*

i just read through the thread on feminism about an hour ago; there are some very intelligent people here, some i agree with and some i don't... and some who don't respect an individual's opinions enough for me to trust them with mine.

Therefore, my side goes here in my cushy little blog:

i'll start by saying "Yes, i consider myself a feminist," -- though partially because it's easier for the world to think of me as that than to have to define why i'm TECHNICALLY not a feminist and what that means. i've said before that i'm wary of labels, and this is no exception:

my definition of a feminist is one who embraces her role as a female in today's society and believes that that role makes her just as good as any man out there. While i applaud the thought -- believe me, i'm always one for positive thinking -- i find that i don't strictly meet that categorization because i don't believe women are as good as men simply because they're women.

What makes someone productive? Intelligent? Hardworking? Loyal? i can guaran-fucking-tee you that it has nothing to do with sex (which is clinical, versus gender, which i consider as more of a self-identifying ideal, but don't get me started on that.)

Take a simple job, like screwing on toothpaste lids. i personally would suck at that job, because my attention span is like thisshort, and besides - i crave creativity (which is why i'm not in toothpaste lidding, although i'm sure its good money... but i digress.) In fact, a monkey could probably do it better than i could. Does that make me a speciesist? NO. It means that i'm intelligent and honest enough to admit that i'm not the best person/monkey for the job. But the same goes for what i AM good at; i could kick that monkey's ass when it came to baking a pie or welding steel. =)

i just don't understand why people let society label them so easily! Or jump to label themselves, even! i honestly don't care if Y/you're a man or a woman (i swing both ways, which does NOT make me a bisexual -- but that's a rant for another time!)

Long story short: i do not believe that being a woman is cause alone for staying home with the kids, or being the next Betty Crocker. i do not believe that being a man means working to support your family and doing all the repairs around the house. But if that's what you WANT -- well, far be it from me to deny you that. <3

The moral of this story is to do what you want, people -- just try not to take out others while you're doing it.
